Earl Michael Thomas was born in Birmingham Alabama and raised in Detroit, Michigan, the latter being an area well known for the development of young aspiring musicians. Earl began playing music professionally in the mid-70s, playing “for hire” for such well-known artists as Brook Benton, Grady Tate, Marlena Shaw, and Walter Jackson. From 1974 until 1976, Earl served as music director, lead guitarist, vocal arranger, and composer for “Creative Source,” a male and female vocal group managed by Mr. Ron Townsend of the “Fifth Dimension.” From December of 1976 until April of 1978, Earl provided lead guitar support for Mary Wilson and the Supremes.

As a guitarist, Earl does not boast virtuosity, but, rather, plays an easily recognizable style of contemporary Christian music. Like a painter that translates the shades and colors that he or she sees (or imagines) onto a canvas, music artists express the ideas that originate from within through song. Earl is of the persuasion that true artists do not strive to “please the masses,” but, rather, seek to bring to fruition that initial musical inspiration. Consistent with this line-of-thought, he understands and accepts the fact that the finished product may not please all listeners…. Therefore, the ultimate reward is not a “million seller,” but knowing that there are those who sincerely connect with and appreciate the artist’s work, no matter how few….

Earl Michael Thomas gave his life to JESUS CHRIST in the late seventies through the fervent prayers of his talented older brother, the late Mr. James McCurdy* and his brother’s dedicated lovely wife, the late Ms. Frankie McCurdy. Earl chose to leave the secular music industry in 1979 and by the grace of GOD… HAS NEVER LOOKED BACK!

*NOTE: James McCurdy was an accomplished singer and songwriter in his own right, having toured extensively with the Violinaires and Gospel Clouds and having written such well-known songs as “Dance Like David Danced.” His beloved wife, “Sister Frankie” was such a devout Christian lady and powerful prayer warrior that hypocrites were uncomfortable in her presence!
